You’ve seen it all around but what is it? Yesterday I explained how I use mindfulness to help me get to sleep. Today I want to explain what mindfulness is.
A simple definition of mindfulness is
“a mental state, characterised by concentrated awareness of one’s thoughts, actions or motivations.”
In other words mindfulness is the idea of being aware of what is going on around you (and inside you).
Mindfulness is the opposite of mindlessness. It means waking up out of autopilot and ‘taking the steering wheel’ of our attention again.
So often we go through life on autopilot, just going, going, going and we don’t stop to look, touch, smell, listen, think.
When you start becoming mindful of the world around you, you begin to see things different. You understand, and appreciate, the world around you more.
Come back this afternoon for 5 Ways You Can Practice Mindfulness.
