'Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover'

It is human nature for us to judge those around us. We use their appearance, body language and verbal language to detect if they are of any danger, or if they wish to communicate.

However, in our modern society, we often judge a person too much. “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a sentence even a Primary School pupil can explain to you. No matter how much we believe in this saying and how incredibly hard we try to attain that command, we fail at times.

Imagine you are walking through the woods and you see a small dog. It looks cute and friendly. You approach and move to pet the dog. Suddenly it snarls and tries to bite you. The dog no longer seems cute and you feel fear and possibly anger. Then, as the wind blows, the leaves on the ground are carried away and you see the dog has one of its legs caught in a trap. Now, you feel compassion for the dog. You know it became aggressive because it is in pain and is suffering.

Not judging a book by its cover means to give the book a chance at telling its story before abandoning it. Though it does not mean to never abandon. If a person is causing a negative impact on your life, abandon it. Just don’t judge the next person you meet according to the characteristics of the old. Never associate a race, gender, or religion with one negative encounter.

  1. Love your positive vibes. I can relate to this more now than ever. I recently had the experience of being in awe at someone who use to annoy the fudge out of me. They amazed me in ways by being there for me when I didn’t expect anyone to. I remember this saying in primary school as well. As you grow older the more you can comprehend the multitude it possess.
